The department of Mechanical Engineering (MECH) has emerged from a fusion of different smaller groups
and it now consists of seven full time professors, three part time professors, 6 assistants, 4 technical
and administrative support, and a group of contractual researchers which amounts to some 20 persons (late 2005).
MECH is responsible for a large part of the education and research in the field of Mechanical Engineering,
going from the first year in Bachelor in Engineering to the last year of the Masters in Electromechanical Engineering,
which is done in close relationship with the department of Electrotechnical Engineering.
MECH covers a broad range of activities which are arranged into three groups as follows:
Our goal is to ensure attractive and high level education and research, which at he VUB can be
done in close contact with small student groups. Although we cover a wide range of activity we are
capable of being top level in a number of niche activities such as robotics, vibrations, computational fluid
mechanics and energy from biomass.
You are always welcome for a visit or discussion about our activity, and we hope to meet you one of these days at our department.
