Ir. Rossana Lovecchio was born in Italy in 1996. She received her bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2018 at the University of Bologna with highest distinction. She completed her master's degree in Bionics Engineering, curriculum in Biorobotics, in February 2021 at the University of Pisa and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, with highest distinction. Her master thesis, titled "Developing a control algorithm for six-legged underwater robot SILVER2", describes the formulation of a control algorithm for the autonomous motion of a bio-inspired robot traveling on the seabed. This work, presented at IROS 2021, focuses on the modeling of the robot's kinematics and dynamics, trajectory planning, path following, and includes a computer vision algorithm for underwater object recognition.
From February 2021 and January 2022, Rossana Lovecchio worked at Medical Micro Instruments as System Test Engineer in the R&D department, working on the testing of the surgical robot Symani. Here, she worked on the development of testing procedures with motion tracking systems and computer vision algorithms.
On January 2022, she pursued an MBA at College des Ingenieurs, a fully-funded merit-based Master’s in Business Administration focused on learning business fundamentals, strengthening leadership skills, and studying topics like strategy, marketing, and innovation. During these 10 months, she worked as Clinical Project Manager for Restorative Neurotechnologies, a startup in medical devices for cognitive rehabilitation.
Since December 2022, she is a Ph.D. researcher at the Robotics & Multibody Mechanics Lab, VUB, Brussels. She is working for AUTOCRAFT (AUTOmated CRAFTsmanship skill transfer), a project funded by Flanders Make, on skill transfer in the manufacturing industry. She is currently working on capturing human behavior in a sensorized environment.
Her research interests include motion tracking, computer vision, neural networks, and robotics for applications in health and manufacturing.
