Stein Crispel was born in Halle (Belgium) in 1994. He received his Bachelor in Engineering from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2015
and his Master's Degree in Electromechanical Engineering from the Bruface joint master program of the Vrije Universiteit Brussen (VUB) and Université libre
de Bruxelles (ULB) in 2017. For his Master's thesis, he received the best thesis award from Brea (Brussels Engineering Alumni).
Between September 2016 and January 2017 he has participated in the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) for a study abroad at the École
polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
From 2017 he has been working as a PhD researcher in the Multibody Mechanics and Robotics research group at VUB. For this research he was
granted a fellowship by the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO).
His research is focused on the study and development of redundant and energy-efficient actuators for applications with varying loads and speeds.
This based on gear transmissions capable of achieving very high gear ratios suitable to be used in combination with electrical actuators for robotics
applications.
